Will Power Thu., May 19 Comedy If you're skeptical about a comedy hypnotist show, Will Power will change your mind forever whether he does it with mind tricks is for you to find out. His hypnotist act shows just how powerful suggestion can be on the human mind. This show is adults only, as Powers act isnt family friendly. Rated somewhere between R and X, Powers performance will have you laughing with his naughty fun. Don't think you can go to a hypnotist show and not participate, as Power will undoubtedly find a way to rope you into the show. He performs tonight at 7:30 at the Improv. Tickets are $12.
Drew Thomas Fri., May 20 Comedy Currently the Host of Phat Comedy Tuesdays at Twisted Taco, comedian Drew Thomas likes to joke that men and women don't talk about marriage in the same way. Women sound happy about it; men not so much. Thomas regularly draws on everyday life for his routines. A few years back, he caught a good break when he was featured on The Craig Ferguson Show. He's shared the stage with wise asses such as Ron White, Jake Johansen, Bill Burr, Jim Norton and Craig Robinson. Be warned, he likes to harass the patrons in the front row of the club, often making fun of their outfits. He performs tonight at 7:30 and 10 at Club Velvet at the Hard Rock Rocksino at Northfield. Tickets are $13 to $18.
Hookahville 2016 Fri., May 20 On Tour The grandfathers of Ohios expansive jam band scene culturally and musically have always maintained close ties to the Cleveland area. From 1991s Under Full Sail to 2013s sweetly groovin Brij, Ekoostik Hookah have kept their fire burning across time. Check out Whiskey Woman for a fine example of the hookah-laden chops still hooked around each of the bands compositional outings. Given the bands personal history, rife with small shows and Hookahville festivals alike, every chance to be a part of the fun is a necessary diversion from life out there. This weekend, the band brings its Hookaville festival to Nelson Ledges. John Kadlecik Band, Carlos Jones and Dixons Violin share the bill. Tickets are $60 in advance, $70 at the gate.
Return of Spring Fri., May 20 Art Exhibits Just steps from Playhouse Square, Cleveland oldest art gallery, the Bonfoey Gallery, hosts an opening reception from 5 to 8 tonight for San Francisco-based, Cleveland native Gary Bukovnik and his appropriately titled new exhibition of watercolors, Return of Spring. Bukovniks boldly colorful watercolors will be on view in both the street and lower level galleries through June 18. At 10:30 p.m. tomorrow, Bonfoey hosts a gallery talk and painting demonstration with Gary Bukovnik and a talk by a member of the Greater Cleveland Orchid Society. Free. Metropolis Sat., May 21 Film The definitive 2002 version of German filmmaker Fritz Langs 1927 silent sci-fi classic originally screened in 35mm film with subtitles. Metropolis focuses on the class divide between the rich inhabitants of an aboveground city and the underground laborers that power its massive infrastructure. A forward-thinking robot decides to start a revolt, and conflict ensues. The 2002 restoration of the film screens tonight at 9:35 and tomorrow at 3:45 at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque. Tickets are $10/$ for members.
The Red, White and BBQ Rib Burn Off Sat., May 21 Seasonal Special Happenings Erie Street in downtown Willoughby will be closed today and tomorrow for the the Red, White and BBQ Rib Burn Off, which will feature three stages for live bands. There will be beer and wine and ribs from more than a dozen participating downtown Willoughby restaurants. The event takes place from noon to 11 p.m. today and from noon to 8 p.m. tomorrow. Admission is free, but but donations to the USO are appreciated.
The Roxy Remembered Sat., May 21 Seasonal Special Happenings Tonight at 8:30, Le Femme Mystique Burlesque presents the sixth annual Roxy Remembered show at the Beachland Ballroom. Ryan Zymler hosts the event that focuses on the classic burlesque that once dazzled Cleveland. Renowned dancers slated to perform include Leena Allure (Detroit), Bella Sin, Noella DeVille, Sable Champagne, Kinsey Quake, Marley Teenie and Ellie St. Cyr. Local star Bella Sin will give her last Cleveland show before she takes a hiatus and move behind the scenes for production of the next few shows. Tickets range from $15 to $30, with VIP and reserved ticket options available.
Cleveland Improv Jam Sundays Comedy The Angry Ladies of Improv has hosted the Cleveland Improv Jam for four years now. A few years back, Scene described the show as fierce, formidable and very funny. The women have some serious experience too. Katie White-Sonby is an actress who's performed at Clague Playhouse, Karamu and Kennedy's Cabaret. Marjorie Preston is an alumna of Something Dada and Rockwell 9 improvisational comedy troupes. Dionne Atchison is a theater artist with Cleveland Public Theatre, and Brenna MC Connor is an actress and improviser. The event begins with a short-form set of improv games, followed by a longform improv set. It begins at 7:30 tonight at Coffee Phix. Arrive at 7 if you want to sign up and perform. Admission is free.
The Prince of Egypt Sun., May 22 Film The Cleveland Museum of Art currently hosts Pharaoh, an exhibit of Egyptian art. To complement the exhibit, the museum will screen several films set in ancient Egypt. Today at 1:30 p.m., it screens The Prince of Egypt, a 1998 film animated film about the life of Moses that features the voices of prominent actors such as Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer and Sandra Bullock. Tickets are $10.
Tropical Sundays Starts May 22. Sundays Seasonal Special Happenings A weekly summer celebration, Now That's Class's Tropical Sundays features cornhole and basketball in the club's back parking lot and exclusive Tropical Sunday co*cktails including Pimms, Paulitos Puerto Rican Punch, MiMonsters, Cucumber Bloody Marys and Bloody Tooth. The club promises "many more surprises and activities" too. The event starts at 3 today. Admission is free.
