Learn all about the best and worst towers!

byAndrés Gonzálezupdated

Doomspire Defense has a large variety of tower units to choose from to protect your base, and our tier list will help you know which ones are the best of the best. With over a dozen towers to choose from, it’s no surprise that they’re all far from equal. I mean, the simplistic weak Battler is nothing compared to the Advanced-class Cloner! In this tier list, we’ll give you a breakdown of all towers, so you know which ones are hot and which ones are not.

Tier List | All Tower Units in Doomspire Defense from Best to Worst

S Tier

Doomspire Defense: Best Tower Tier List - Item Level Gaming (4)
  • Cloner – A pretty easy Intermediate unit to get, and fairly cheap for its power. It creates clones that can easily overwhelm enemies, making it a good overall unit in every situation. Pairs well with the Rockstar and Boombox units!
  • Rockstar – A strong damage buffer, the Rockstar will increase the damage of all other towers near it. This includes summons, such as the Cloner’s clones. On top of buffing other towers, it can also deal area-of-effect damage.
  • Wizard – Fires strong fire attacks that can go through enemies and apply a burning effect. Excels at crowd control, making it a must-have when dealing with large groups of enemies. The only downside is that it’s a tad expensive to fully upgrade…
  • Boombox – Increases the action speed of every allied unit placed near it. Extremely helpful for every single tower unit, but it’s especially great when paired with the Rockstar and naturally slow towers like the Rocketeer. A must-have, just like the Rockstar!
  • Survivalist – The only healing tower in the entire game. It’s costly and has basically no damage, sadly, but it’s mandatory to keep your other towers alive. If you’re having trouble keeping your other towers alive, make sure to bring a Survivalist with you!
  • Moderator – If you ever wish your enemies would stay put, Moderator is your best bet. Enemies hit by the Moderator will be stunned for a bit and unable to move. When paired with the speed up from the Boombox, it can keep certain enemies permanently stunned, too!

A Tier

  • Mr. Tix – If you’re having money troubles, just ask Mr. Tix to help out! This unit generates cash, making it easier for you to purchase and upgrade other towers.
  • General – The General is a bit of an odd one to rank. It has by far the best Damage Per Second output of all towers in the game. This is especially true when paired with Boomboxes and Rockstars! However, it’s hard to acquire and also extremely costly to place and upgrade.
  • Baller – A fantastic crowd control unit, the Baller throws a ball that bounces on multiple enemies before disappearing. The ball will prioritize weakened enemies, too! It can even stun when upgraded, for extra crowd control.
  • Arsenal – One of the best ranged DPS tower units in Doomspire Defense. Has solid damage paired with great range. Very cheap to place, too! Ideally, place Arsenal close to Boombox and Rockstar towers to truly make the most of them.
  • Six-Shooter – Strong ranged DPS tower primarily focused on dealing with lone enemies. It can deal extremely high damage to single enemy units, but its targeting has trouble when dealing with large groups.
  • Spawn – Asummoning tower that spawns units onto the path it’s placed on. Can be very good for overwhelming enemies with extra allies, but it’s extremely costly to upgrade.
  • Pianist – Summons a piano which deals decent damage to nearby enemies. More importantly, though, it can also stun large groups when the piano falls. Additionally, the piano acts as a wall to block enemies’ movement.
  • Hyperlaser – Potentially the best unit for dealing with single enemies, its insanely high damage allows the Hyperlaser to take out tanky enemies with ease. However, it’s very costly and also has an extremely low rate of fire. Ideally, pair it with a Boombox!

B Tier

  • Machinery – This is a hybrid DPS/summoning tower, dealing damage while also summoning Sentries to help deal with enemies. Its attacks deal extremely high damage, but there’s a very long break between attacks. Additionally, the tower can Overheat, which prevents it from firing at all for a period of time.
  • Sword Master – An extremely simple tower, just like the other Starter units in Doomspire Defense. It manages to earn a decent spot in our tier list purely due to how cheap it is to place and how decent its damage is. However, it has terrible range and doesn’t really do anything special.
  • Freezer – One of the few towers in the game that can apply Slow to enemies. When upgraded, the Freezer can even stun enemies in place. However, it deals basically no damage and is very situational. You’re better off going for DPS towers instead of applying Slow!
  • Bomber – Yet another Starter unit, the Bomber is decent at dealing with groups of enemies with its explosives. Very low damage overall, but decent enough during the early waves and surprisingly effective when fully upgraded.

  • Troweler – This very unique support tower has a single mission: make walls! Trowelers will place walls on the path around it, blocking enemies’ progression. It’s very cheap, too, and can come in clutch when dealing with large groups. Its biggest downside is its slow speed, which means you should only place them near the end of paths.
  • Rocketeer – Similar to the Bomber, this ranged unit is great at dealing with groups thanks to its ranged explosive attacks. Overall, consider it an upgraded Bomber: better damage, better range, but also more costly.
  • Pizza Place – A summoning-type tower, it spawns durable summons that have ranged attacks. Aside from dealing damage, it will also generate some cash. The biggest issue with this tower is the extremely long cooldown between spawning units, taking up to a full minute between spawns.
  • Heavy Gunner – Solid ranged DPS tower that can shred through foes with a rain of bullets. Slow rev-up time before attacking and forced reloads after firing a certain amount lower its effectiveness, though. It’s also very costly, basically requiring a Mr. Tix tower to help you place and upgrade it.

C Tier

  • Slingshotter – Extremely cheap ranged tower. Nothing particularly noteworthy, but it’s good to use against weak enemies in early waves. You should replace it as soon as you can afford better ranged towers like the Arsenal, though.
  • Paintballer – Some veterans of the game might be shocked to see the Paintballer so low. While it did use to be an extremely strong unit despite being a starter, the latest update vastly nerfed its range. It’s not extremely situational and only really worth using if you’re fighting against cloaked enemies.
  • Cake Battler – This tower is actually not as bad as its placement on our tier list might suggest. It’s one of the few towers in Doomspire Defense that can apply Slow to enemies, after all! However, it’s not currently obtainable and it gets overshadowed by most other towers anyway.
  • Piñata – A somewhat decent tower that can spawn summons that deal solid area-of-effect damage. However, you need to babysit it by clicking on it to spawn the summons. It’s also completely shut down by any enemies with summon immunity. Overall, a very situational tower and hard to recommend in most setups.

D Tier

  • Battler – There’s not much we can really say about the poor Battler. It’s an extremely cheap starter tower, but it has very low damage and basically no range. It’s somewhat useful in Easy mode, but practically useless in any higher difficulties!
