This pst August 5 was your 21st birthday. Today you have been gone from us four long long years. Your friends came to see us on your birthday. We ate together and after they left they camped out in honor of your birthday, as they have done four years now, just as you did on your last one. I want so much for everyone to know just how much you are missed by friends and family but I cannot your tell them there are no adequate words to express it there is just no way for them to know.

Mom, Dad, and Melissa CHARLES NORMAN WILLIAMS RALEIGH Charles Norman Wil- liams parted this life on September 1, 2000, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center after a disease invaded and quickly attacked his body. Prior to his illness, he was a Personal Physical Trainer who had a desire for teaching others to care for their physical bodies, as well as a passion to eagerly spread the gospel. A memorial service will be held at the Body of Christ Church located at 4501 Spring Forest Road on September 9, 2000 at 11 a.m. Charles was a member of the Body of Christ Church where he devoted his service as an usher and greeter. The church body and friends will be assuredly miss Charles! He leaves to mourn family and friends.

Thank you in advance for your gifts to assist others. THEODORE R. "HOSS" WATSON JR. ROCKY MOUNT Theodore Ran- dolph "Hoss" Watson, 72, died Tuesday, September 5, 2000.

He was born May 26, 1928 in Nash County, the son of Pauline Todd Watson of Rocky Mount and the late Theodore Randolph Watson, Sr. Mr. Watson was owner and operator of Watson Motor Sales for over 40 years and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He served in the US Army under the Core Engineer Group. He is survived by his wife Lib Watson of the home; son and daughter-in-law, John and Claudette Lee; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Bobby Walston; brother sister-in-law, Donald "Boots" and Shirley Watson; sister-in-law, Judy L.

Hayes; broth and sisterin-law, Bob Janet Weeks; three grandchildren; and one great child. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2000, at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Rocky Mount, NC with Rev. Paul Gotthardt and Rev.

Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27802. CHAPPELL ALAN JEFFREY MILES Allen Alvis "Chappy" Chappell, age 97, of Wilson, NC, passed away Wednesday morning, September 6, 2000 after a long illness. He was born December 6, 1902 in Durham, NC, the son of the late William Thomas and Bessie Page Chappell. received his education at the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh, graduating in 1921. Chappy organized the Credit Bureau in Wilson in 1938, was the founder and former owner of Chappell's Letter Service (now Chappell's Printing and Office Supplies) and was also the executive secretary of the North Carolina's Farm Equipment Association for 25 years.

Chappy has been a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Wilson since moving there in 1938. He was also a member of the Evening Lion's Club in Wilson since May of 1939 61 years of service to the blind and visually impaired. He served as their president in 1946, received the North Carolina Lions Foundation's Jack Stickley Fellow award in 1996 and was honored by the organization's highest accolade when he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Lions Club International Foundation in 1991-92. Chappy was a lover of the game of golf and presided each spring at the Chappell-Poole golf tournament which kicked off the season also serving as the executive secretary of the North Carolina Seniors Golf Association from 1984-1988. His pride and joy was his lovely yard at 1502 Canal Drive in Wilson which held more than 300 azaleas that he had rooted himself and grown in his greenhouse.

The yard lit up the landscape in the spring. Unfortunately, the flood from Hurricane Floyd destroyed the house and many of the plants. The Chappell's have been living since at 3503 Astor Drive in Wilson. Chappy is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anderton Chappell; a step-son and daughter-in-law, W. Lawrence and Debbie Lewis Bradley of Wilson; a step-daughter and sonin-law Gayle Bradley and Michael Weiss of Boulder, Colorado; two step-grandsons: William "Brad" Bradley of Boone, NC and David John Brigham, a student at Syracuse University; four step-granddaughters: Bradley Susan Brigham of Ramallah, Palestine; Tracy Lynne Brigham of Seattle, Washington, Heather Bradley Moore and husband, Todd Moore, of Greensboro, NC; Erin Elizabeth Weiss, a student at Colorado State University and one step-great-granddaughter: Marlee DeAnn Moore of Greensboro, NC.

Chappy was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Cline Williams Chappell, October 1988. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 US 264 West, Wilson, NC. He was born May 24, 1921 in Littleton, son of the late Howard R. and Alice Myrick Browning. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille White Browning a native of Henderson; and his brother, John Ray Browning. He was retired manager the Rocky Mount Regional Office of the Internal Revenue Service. He served in the Army of WWII stationed in Japan and Africa.

He was a member of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church and Birchwood Country Club. Survivors include: daughters, Lucille Chandler Browning of Goldsboro, Winifred "Winkie" B. Cohen and her husband, Mark of Alpharetta, GA, Mary Anne B. Abogabir and her husband, Jorge of Santiago, Chile; grandchildren, Sarah Lucille Abogabir and Jorge Estefan Abogabir of Santiago, Chile; brother-inlaw, William White and his wife, Allen Brady of Naples, Janet of Henderson; brother in law, Margaret Browning of Norfolk, VA. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 8, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 125 Hillsborough St. (at McDowell Alan was born August 26, 1960, in Asheville.

He was a 1982 graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, with a major in International Studies. He graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1985. He was a partner in the law firm and Dixon, L.L.P., and concentrated his practice in the area of legislative representation before the General Assembly. Alan also devoted substantial pro bono time to the Center for Death Penalty Legislation. Alan is survived by his wife, Renee Riggsbee, and two stepchildren, Lisa Burton and Eric Burton; father and stepmother, Mr.

and Mrs. A.D. Miles of Fletcher; sister and brother-inlaw, Janice and Bruce Arden and nephew, Brian, of Etowah; and sister-in-law and nephew, Michele Riggsbee and Davis Speed of Boone. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street in charge of arrangements. Brown, age 77, died Tuesday afternoon, September 5, 2000, in the Britthaven of Smithfield, following a lingering illness. Born November 21, 1922 in Harnett County to the late Roy Jennings and Thelma Tatum Brown, he was a retired teacher and coach with the Johnston County School System. Coach graduated from Dunn High School and entered the US Army Air Force, serving during WWII.

Once discharged from the service he returned home and enrolled in Atlantic Christian College and was graduated in 1949. Later that year he moved to Smithfield where he taught geography, history, social studies, health, physical education and also taught driver's education for many years. He coached several sports while at Smithfield and in 1959 his football team won the State Championship. In 1960 he coached the East Team in the annual NCHSAA East-West game in Greensboro. He had served as the President of the NC High School Association.

In 1988 Coach retired from the Johnston County School System where he had served as the Director of Athletics for many years. Coach was a Charter member of the Smithfield Lions Club and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also an avid golfer. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2000, the First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield with the Rev.

John Causey to officiate. He is survived by his wife, Eula Lee Brown, sons, Eric Brown and wife, Sheila of Garner and Roy J. Aubrey Jones officiating. Interment in Westview Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Robert Byrd Humphreys, of the home; sons, Robert Byrd Humphreys, Jr. of Raleigh and James Scott Humphreys of Starkville, Mississippi; daughters, Ellen Elizabeth Hunsberger of Durham; and three grandchildren. family will receive friends 7- 8:30 p.m.
